What does ‘With native lang’ mean?

When you write a journal, you have the option to also write it in your own native language. Doing so will allow correctors to see what you were trying to express, and can also help them with their own study.

“Write in your native language” feature

Today we are proud to announce the new “Write in your native language” feature, available now for all users!

You can write in your native language in addition to the language you are learning.

By writing in your native language, correctors can see what you were aiming to write, and can also learn from your native language.

1. Click on the “Post” buttonon the upper bar.

 

2. In the “Text” box, write a journal in the language you are learning.

3. In the “Also write in your native language(optional)” box, write the same content in your native language

Note: You do not have to use the native language feature. You can post journals only in the language you are learning.

3. Your new journal will then be published in two languages, as shown below:

To switch the display style, click on “Vertical view”.

In “Vertical view”, your native language journal will be displayed next to your original entry as seen below

A gray-colored “With native lang” label will be added next to the title as seen below.

This label helps potential correctors to see if your post contains a translation or not.

What is the “language flag” ?

With the “language flag,” you set the language that you would like corrected.

(e.g. If you wrote a journal in English, the “language flag” should be “English”)

The ”language flag” will help native speakers find your journal entry easily.

I want to delete my draft.

1. Click on “write” on the top of the main page,

or click on “Write a new entry” below your profile picture.

2. You’ll be directed to the edit page.

You can delete drafts by clicking on the ““icons next to draft titles.

Or after clicking a draft title, you can also delete the draft by clicking “Delete Draft” as below.

I want to edit my draft.

1. Click on “write” at the top of the main page,

    or click on “Write a new entry” below your profile picture.

2. Your saved draft shows up on the right side of the edit page.

    Please click on the draft you’d like to modify.

3.  After editing your draft;

if you want to post the journal without confirming the contents, click on “Publish”.

If you want to post the journal after confirming the content, click on “Preview”, confirm the contents and then click on “Post”.

you can also save it as draft again by clicking on “Save Draft”

How to save a journal entry as a draft?

1. Click on “write” at the top of the main page,

or click on “Write a new entry” below your profile picture.

2. Set the “Language flag”, and enter the title and the body.

3. Click on “Save Draft”, and then your draft will be saved.

4. You can see your saved draft on the right side of this page.

I’d like to limit who can access my journal entries.

4 options are available under “access settings” at the bottom of the “Post a new entry” page.
Using the options under the “settings” menu you can change the overall level of access
(Please note that the access settings of recent posts will not be changed).

The 4 access setting options are as follows.


Public : All internet users, even non-Lang-8 users, will be able to search for and view your entries via Internet search engines.
Share with all Lang-8 users : Only registered Lang-8 users will be able to view your entries.
Share with My Friends only : Only users that are your friends on Lang-8 will be able to view your entries.
Private-Just Me : No one besides you can view your entry.

How can I upload a picture?

You can post an entry with pictures.

1. Click on “Find files” to search and select a picture to upload.

(** Pictures must be GIF, JPEG or PNG format, and less than 300 kilobytes)

2. If you’d like to delete an uploaded picture, click on “Delete” next to the picture.

I want to delete a posted journal entry.

1. On your entry list page, click on “Edit” below the entry you’d like to modify.

Or open the entry page, and click on “Edit” at the top right corner.

2. You’ll be directed to the edit page.

You can delete it by clicking on “Delete”

I’d like to edit a submitted journal entry.

1. On your entry list page, click on “Edit” below the entry you’d like to modify.

Or open the entry page, and click on “Edit” at the top right corner

2. You’ll be directed to the edit page.

After modifying,

if you want to post the journal without confirming the contents, click on “Publish”.

if you want to post the journal after confirming the contents, click on “Preview”, confirm the contents and then click on [Post].
