Lang-8 Layout Error Fix

Occasionally, changing your browser’s zoom can cause the Lang-8 menu to display incorrectly. To fix this, please set the zoom option on your browser to 100%

If you’d prefer to use short-cut keys, you can use the following.

  • [Ctrl] + [+] : Enlarge
  • [Ctrl] + [-] : Reduce
  • [Ctrl] + [0] : Default zoom level

How do I report spam on Lang-8?

If you receive spam messages or comments, please let us know via the “Report Spam” link.

( If you are unable to use the “Report Spam” link, mail us at support@lang-8.com with the spammer’s ID number )

**If you receive spam messages on Lang-8, please don’t click on any links included in the messages, and please don’t reply to them by e-mail directly.

Upon receiving a Spam Report from a user, we will check the spammer’s account and delete it if we find that the user violates the Terms of Service

Case 1. Spam Message

In the bottom right corner of a message is the ”Report Spam” link.

Click on “Report Spam” and report it to us.

Case 2: Spam Journal

Place the cursor over the right-bottom corner of the journal, just under the Evernote ‘capturer’ link, to display the “Report Spam” link.

Click on “Report Spam” to report it to us.

Case 3: Spam Comment

Place the cursor over the spam comment, and then “Report Spam” link will appear above the message to the right and side.

Click on “Report Spam” to report it to us.

If you are unsure if a message is spam or not, please report it. Together we can make Lang-8 a better place!

Sentences don’t show up in the correction box.

How to check your browser version


As shown in “Recommended environment”,

We recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome for browsing the Lang-8 website. It’s free!

You may encounter some problems when viewing the site without the proper environment or browser settings.

If you can’t get another browser to work, please give Google Chrome a go. If problems persist, please contact us at support@lang-8.com.

Blocking users

You can use the block function to prevent specific users from communicating with you.

1. To block a user, you need their ID number, not their user name. To find their ID number, click on their username or profile picture from anywhere on the site to open their profile page.

 Their user ID is displayed on the right hand side of the page.

2. Choose “Settings” from the navigation menu.

3. Choose the “Other Settings” tab.

Under “Block user (only viewable by you)”, and enter their ID number.

4. Click on “Save”

Users blocked in this fashion will be unable to communicate with you.

Recommended environment

In general, we recommend users use Google Chrome as their Web browser when browsing Lang-8.

For ideal results, use the following settings:

+ Windows user


OS: Windows 7

browser: Google Chrome 18.0 or higher / Firefox 11.0 or higher

+ Macintosh user


OS: Mac OS X 10.5 or higher

browser: Google Chrome 18.0 or higher / Mozilla Firefox 11.0 or later

**If you have trouble using Lang-8 functions with browsers other than Chrome, please try to access by the latest Google Chrome first.

A specific user(s) is harassing me. Can you do something about it?

Basically, we won’t intervene in conflicts between users.
Therefore, we cannot delete a specific user’s account or entries, except when they are spammers.

However, it’s possible to block the harmful user by yourself.
For details, please refer to “Can I block a specific user?”

How can I report spam messages?

You can report spam with the following methods.
Please look at the bottom right-hand corner of the “message details”, and you can find the link “Report Spam”
Or Email us at info@lang-8.com with spammer’s ID number.

Here’s a sample spam message. Please be careful NOT to Email them directly.

Where’s the waiting list of members who have sent me a “My Friends invitation” ?

A. If the notifications aren’t showing up on your home page
If notifications on your home page aren’t showing up, please try following things.

1, Please delete your browser cache.
or
2, Please type ctrl+r.

Then it should work fine.

B. in case you have received a notification e-mail, but you cannot find the waiting list.

Maybe the user who sent you an invitation has already deleted his/her Lang-8 account for some reason.
In this case,  you will not receive any invitation messages, and cannot accept the invitation.
This sometimes happens when the invitation was sent by a spammer.

I cannot receive an e-mail from @lang-8.com

1. Please check your spam folder.
2. Make sure that your mail settings doesn’t have the filter that block e-mails from @lang-8.com

Notifications aren’t showing up at the top of your individual page

If notifications on your home page aren’t showing up, please try following things.

1, Please delete your browser cache.

2, Please type ctrl+r.

Then it should work fine.
