About L points

Thank you very much for using Lang-8.

Lang-8 is a language exchange web service, so it is very important that users not only enjoy receiving help from native speakers, but also correct other user’s entries in return.

Currently, only 69.5% of entries get corrections.

So we decided to change the system so that the more you correct the more corrections you receive.

If you correct many entries and get L points, your entry will be shown at a higher line on the “Correct” page.

image

In particular, you can got L points when you correcting other’s entries, receive thanks points, or get native nods.

Your L points will decrease when you post a new entry or as time goes on.

We hope this new system will help you, as well as increase thecorrections on your entries.

*This change applies only to “Correct” page, but not “My Home”.

Premium users’ entries are still shown higher on My Home’s column as it was before.

You can confirm your L points on the “Write” page or your profile page.

Thank you very much,

Lang-8 Team.

Do Premium Accounts really get more corrections?

Let’s take a look at some Lang-8 correction statistics.

First, let’s take a look at the correction ratio (the percentage of articles which have received one or more corrections) across all languages.

All Entries: 69.5%

All Premium Account Entries: 91.3%

Next let’s take a look at the correction ratio for entries written in English, which has the most entries of any language.

All English Entries: 52.4%

All Premium Account English Entries: 88%

So we can see that an entry written in English by a premium user is 33% more likely to be corrected  than one written by a normal user. In other words, 1.7 times more likely.

Of course, our aim is to create a network where both premium and non-premium users receive corrections 100% of the time.

Our aim with these statistics was not to try and force you to sign up for a Lang-8 premium account!

……

……… Although… of course… we would be super happy if you were to sign up for a Premium account!

After all, premium users are helping to fund the development of Lang-8 into a fully developed language network.

There’s a whole bunch of advantages to a premium account other than just a higher correction chance.

*Lang-8 provides a platform for native users to correct your journal 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world.

*Statistics based on numbers pulled from the system on March 6th 2013.

*Correction ratios for all users included premium users in the statistics.

Streamlined Journal Posting Process

Thank you very much for using Lang-8!

We have removed the ‘title’ box from the journal posting page.

Instead the first line of the journal will be used as the title instead.

Hopefully this will make posting new journal entries quicker and easier.

The new ‘My Home’ layout is here!

Thank you very much for using Lang-8!

Today we are happy to announce the launch of our brand new, sleek and exciting ‘My Home’ page, available right now!

image

Before we were using a 3-column display, but we felt the amount of information displayed was overwhelming, so we’ve streamlined the page down to 2-columns.

The navigation links that were previously on the left hand side of ‘My Home’ are gone. To move around the site, please use the drop-down navigation panel accessible through the top navigation bar.
